Days are short, nights are long, and Christmas is coming. Just as the end of 2007. It has been a good year, and we would really like to thank all those people who contributed to the Politeia Newsletter in 2007. First of all our Politeia partners (without you I would be nowhere!), and of course all the other professionals throughout Europe who wrote something about one of the Politeia 'quarterly themes': new EU members states Romania and Bulgaria; the situation of Roma in Europe; Europe Day 2007; Euroscepticism in Europe; and women in Europe.
The focus of this Politeia Newsletter is the situation of women in Europe, more specifically the political and social participation of this group. We start with an overview of women in politics: how many female presidents and prime-ministers are there world-wide? And how many ministers and parliamentarians are there in different countries?
After this, the situation in different European countries is described. You can read about political participation of women in Morocco and in former war zones Croatia, Kosovo and Bosnia-Herzegovina. About the situation in 'new' EU member states Slovenia, Slovakia and Romania, but also about 'old' European countries Ireland and Finland. And did you know that in Iceland they have a parental leave of nine months? Three months for the mother, three months for the father, and another three months for the parent as desired.
Apart from the different articles about Women in Europe in the Quarterly Theme section, you can also read about the Croatian elections, women's projects in the Netherlands, and the European Citizens Agenda Conference in the Politeia News section, conferences in the Agenda and interesting books and articles in the Recently Published section.
Finally, we would like to wish you a Merry Christmas and all the best for 2008!
