In this section all news about projects, conferences, seminars and articles of the Politeia network or its partner organisations is published. Read more for the Politeia Conference in Amsterdam in December 2006, and the Politeia study visits to Romania and Slovenia. Outcome of the Politeia conference December 2006: Politeia will become an association!

On some cold and rainy December days, representatives of Politeia member organisations from Ireland, the Netherlands, Bulgaria, Romania, Slovakia and Croatia came together in Amsterdam for the annual Politeia conference. Items on the agenda were the evaluation of the Politeia European exchange project of 2006 (“Exchange of Good Practises in the Field of Participation and Citizenship of Underrepresented Groups”), future fundraising activities for Politeia and the transformation of the Politeia network into an association.

Study visit to Slovenia

December 2006

‘A small country with 2 million very pro-active inhabitants.’ That was the first impression Politeia partners got, when they paid a study visit to Slovenia in November 2006.

This study week completed a series of seminars under the title “European Exchange of Good Practises in the Field of Participation and Citizenship of Underrepresented Groups” financed by the Dutch Ministry of Interior.

Study visit to Romania

October 2006

The third study week of the Politeia programme 'European Exchange of Good Practices in the Field of Participation and Citizenship of Underrepresented Groups' was organised by Asociatia Pro Democratia (APD) and took place in Romania from 18 until 22 September 2006. Just as during the previous two exchanges, organised in the Netherlands and Ireland, the focus of this exchange was on the political situation of the host country, Romania in this case, and the different projects organised by APD.

Action Day in Rijeka, Croatia

GONG organised in co-operation with the town of Rijeka the Action Day for Rijeka high school students on 12 October 2006 in Rijeka, Croatia. The Action Day is part of the pilot-project “Think Globally, Act Locally!”, which GONG has developed based on the experience of the Centre for Political Participation IPP from Amsterdam.

Establishing new partnerships in Slovenia

From 15 until 20 January 2007, the Youth Centre of Dravinja Valley, in Slovenske Konjice in the east of Slovenia received 42 participants from 27 different organisations. The seminar “Come together” was dedicated to create contacts between these organisations. At the end of the week nine project ideas were presented.

GONG starts new project: “European Class”

GONG has been for six years now conducting the project “I Vote for the First Time” in which Croatian high-school seniors have been participating in workshops that introduces them to basic electoral terms and expressions and the election process itself. Also they learn about the process of public advocacy activities, with a purpose of encouraging a more active involvement of students in social and political processes. So far, 120 000 students from all over Croatia have participated in these workshops.
