ECAS Partnership Forum

24 July 2006

ECAS, the European Citizen Action Service, organises in collaboration with the European Commission and the Committee of the Regions The Partnership Forum - 4Cs for Civil Society. This forum will take place in Brussels(Belgium) on 10 October 2006 in the context of the Open Days - European Week of Cities and Regions.

This event follows up the Cooperate project and the conference in Turin in October last year. The aim of the Cooperate project was to help the public administrations and the third sector in the new member states to overcome obstacles in partnership building. At the conference in Turin, the need to intensify debates and exchanges between the two sectors was strongly advocated for, together with the need of setting up a forum for intersectoral dialogue.

This is why the event concentrates on partnership. The contents of the workshops will span from the analysis of practical partnerships, through project presentations and new ideas (Workshop C1), to the importance and opportunities of coalition building among third sector organisations (Workshop C2) to actual experience of partnerships at national regional and local level (Workshop C3). Workshop C4 will look at issues concerning investments and funding for the third sector. The contents of the workshops will be counter-balanced with insights from the political strategic level to touch issues concerning consultation, governance and public administrative procedures in the two plenary sessions. The event is attracting high level speakers from the European Commission such as Siim Kallas (Vice President of the European Commission), Graham Meadows (Director General - Regional Policy DG) and Jerome Vignon (Director General - Employment Affairs DG).

The Conference is expected to attract around 250 participants from the enlarged EU ranging from civil society organizations (such as NGOs, European platforms, foundations and associations) to European, regional and local actors (such as development agencies, consultancies, academics and researchers). The Registrations will be done through a centralised website on the European Commission portal:
