The Regeneration Gap – Public Good or Private Profit?

Redeveloping social housing estates is increasingly being seen as vital in promoting social inclusion and reducing poverty in many parts of Ireland’s cities. However, questions may be asked about the processes driving it.

Conceived as an exploration of the regeneration process as it happens, the book, ‘The Regeneration Gap’, sets out to examine the significance and consequences of using Public Private Partnerships in urban regeneration, and in particular, the St. Michael’s Estate in Dublin’s inner-city. The book uncovers the power struggle that has been taking place between private companies and the community whom the project is supposed to benefit.

This TASC study seeks to expose how unleashing market forces for the purposes of social development can negatively impact on the lives of Ireland’s vulnerable and marginalised.
